McKinley | Three Months

McKinley turned 3 months old yesterday! This past month with our baby girl has been so much fun! She smiles all the time and is so close to laughing out loud. She already laughs in her sleep, which is adorable, we are just waiting for her to laugh while she is awake. Right now her "laughs" sound more like coos or grunts. I will be going back to work next week (cue all the tears) but luckily will only be at work for 5 weeks before the school year ends and I get to be back home with my girl again. I've loved watching her little personality develop this month. She thinks her daddy and I are so funny and hates being woken up in the morning, much like her daddy.

Nicknames: MK, Chubby Bunny, Lady Baby, Little Babe

Weight: Weight gain has slowed down, like I had heard it would, and you aren't gaining several pounds a month anymore. You probably weigh about 13 pounds now. I will update after we visit our breastfeeding mamas group today. 12 pounds, 15 ounces at class today!

Height: We won't go back to the doctor until you're 4 months old but I would guess you're probably around 23 inches. I don't need to roll your pants up anymore but they aren't short yet either.

Looks: Lots of fluffy brown hair. Your craddle cap is mostly gone so your hair has really filled in this month, although you have one weird bald spot on your head still that has been there since you were born. You STILL have blue eyes! I know we still have several months left where they have the ability to change but Mommy and Daddy are praying they don't. You also still look mostly like Daddy but I think you are starting to look like your own little person now too.

Personality: Smiling all the time. You are waking up happy now too in the mornings and eating is not the first thing on your mind anymore. You seem to like being praised for new discoveries, this always makes you smile when Mommy tells you how smart you are. Unfortunately, you still have your witching hour in the evenings and Daddy will be so happy when that finally disappears because it's always right when he gets home from work.

Eating: You eat about every 3 hours. If you get fussy before it's time to eat, Mommy can normally stretch it. You do still cluster feed most days in the evenings though. You're also capable of going longer stretches at night, although sometimes you seem to forget this... You drink 3-4 ounces at a time (pacefed) when you take a bottle. Our BF class has been so great for this because I can see how much you're getting from me and prevent overfeeding you with a bottle.

Sleeping: Still not sleeping through the night but you have gone several nights where you've only woken up once! You've also had a bit of a regression lately and had several nights where you've woken up 3-4 times too which you hadn't done since you were a little baby. You have moved back to sleeping in the bassinet part of the Pack 'n Play and take your naps in your big girl crib now too! You still need the swaddle to sleep.

Wearing: Still wearing Size 1s. I thought you would need to wear Size 2s soon but your weight gain has slowed down and the couple times I tried them they leaked. You are still wearing 0-3 months clothes but we will move to 3-6 months soon. I think I'm going to keep out your 0-3 month pants though because your legs are a little on the short side.

Favorite Things: Snuggling with Mommy is still your favorite. Sitting up is a major favorite still too. You love sitting on Mommy's belly and looking down at me. Tummy time is less hated this month, especially when you are propped up on the Boppy. Activity mat has been a big hit this month because you are starting to grasp toys. You're also loving playing airplane or as Daddy calls it, being "Supergirl".

Least Favorite Things: Nighttime diaper changes, being cold or being hot, getting into your car seat, having gas (but it's getting better) and having hiccups, having your clothes put over your head, being sleepy

3rd Month Experiences:

• You got to experience your first St. Patrick's Day. We did nothing, but you still got to wear your holiday sticker. Mommy and Daddy are not Irish so this probably won't be a big holiday in our house!
• Also on St. Patrick's Day, you wore your first pair of shoes, little green and pink sneakers.
• You went to Petsmart for this first time to pick up medicine for your kitty sister Jules.
• You got your first set of vaccines this month. This broke Mommy's heart to hear your crying. Mommy nursed you after your shots and you calmed down right away.
• Gigi came to stay with us while Daddy went out of town for the weekend on a business trip.
• We went shopping and went out to lunch while Gigi was here.
• You went to your first birthday party. It was for your cousin Jackson's 1st birthday. Jackson's mommy, Jessica, is Mommy's cousin.
• You also got your first virus this month. You had a fever of 102 for about three days, plus vomiting and diarrhea. Luckily, it went away quickly and you never seemed to feel too badly.
• You went with Mommy to the Atlanta Botanical Gardens. We had a girls day with Mommy's friends Kayla, Katie, and Emma. You slept most of the time and got a little fussy from being in your car seat so long, but mostly you did great!
• Mommy and Daddy took you to the grocery store for the first time. You did awesome! We were surprised you did so well because we had gone to the park before.
• Jules snuggled you on her own for the first time and you took a short nap together.
• You took your first bath in the baby bathtub without the baby sling. You loved splashing around.
• You went to your first two Easter Egg Hunts, but you just watched from the sidelines. The first was at Hudson's daycare, where you'll go eventually, and the second was at Gambi and Poppa Steve's house.
• Mommy took you to a portrait studio to have some quick Spring Pictures taken on your 3-month birthday.
• We survived alone for the first time! Daddy was gone for a few days this month on another business trip and that was our first time on our own.
