McKinley | One Month

McKinley turned one month old yesterday. I cannot believe my baby has been around for a whole month already! Is it normal to cry every time your kids turns a month older (asking for a friend)?... This month has passed so quickly and has been full of both sweet and trying moments. Still, we are enjoying every moment with our daughter. She has brought a love like I could never have imagined and has made me appreciate and love my husband more than I ever thought possible.

Nicknames: MK, Chubby Bunny (she loves to eat), Peanut

Weight: Probably around 8 1/2 pounds (will update after Friday's doctor visit). Up from 6 lbs, 9 oz at birth and 5 lbs, 15 oz when we left the hospital. You were 9 lbs even at your one-month appointment.

Height: Probably close to 22 inches (will update after Friday's doctor visit). Up from 19.25 inches at birth. You were 20.25 inches at your two-week appointment. Shorter than we thought! You only made it to 21 inches this month. Causing you to drop from the 64% to the 52%. Now Daddy is worried you're going to be short like Mommy. I was never even on the growth chart for height so I'm pretty sure there's still a chance you'll be taller than me. :)

Looks: I think she looks like Daddy, but she's so little still it's hard to know for sure. Also, eyes are still blue but we keep looking for them to turn any day since we both have brown eyes. A little bit of dark brown hair covers your little head, but nowhere near as much as Mommy would have thought based on the heartburn I had with you!

Personality: So far we are thinking we have a pretty easy going baby. Her only crying is typically cured by feeding her. Girlfriend is a great eater. She also is a major snuggler. Mornings are better for her than the afternoons/evenings, she can get a little sassy then.

Eating: Exclusively breastfeeding. We will give her bottles of pumped milk occasionally too. She is still pretty much nursing on demand, not on a schedule. This is tough on Momma but so worth it.

Sleeping: Through the night!... Yeah right. When she's having a good night she typically goes down around 10/11 PM, sleeps until 1, back up at 4, and then we wake up for the morning about 7 AM. When she isn't having a good night, she has been known to wake up every hour.

Wearing: Still in Newborn clothes but we did move up to Size 1 diapers last week from Newborns.

Favorite Things: Snuggling, eating, your swing, riding in your car seat (puts you straight to sleep), tummy time and being on your play mat

Least Favorite Things: Diaper changes, bath time, being cold, getting into your car seat, having gas

1st Month Experiences:

• Came home from the hospital!
• You got to meet your kitty sister, Jules, for the first time. She doesn't seem to mind you.
• Had your newborn photo shoot.
• Met lots of family members and friends for the first time.
• We have been going to a Mommy & Me breastfeeding class at the hospital on Mondays and Thursdays. This has been so helpful since we had some issues at the beginning. Now Mommy can weigh you every week and see that you are gaining weight.
• You had your first sponge bath and first real bath.
• We went to Target twice and to Menchie's for frozen yogurt and you slept the whole time.
• You went to the pediatrician twice (once for a Newborn weight check and once for your two-week visit - you were over birth weight at that visit!)
• Daddy was home with us for 2 weeks but then had to go back to work. You're a Daddy's girl for sure, you two love to snuggle!
• I think you may have smiled a few times when Mommy has been holding you or playing with you. Daddy can also make you smile when he tickles you. Plus you do this funny little laugh thing when he does. We love it.
• You love your hands and having them by your face, which is why you wear mittens most of the time. You did manage to suck your thumb though at least once this month.
• You've started to take more naps in your swing or in your bassinet, but your favorite place to nap is still Mommy's or Daddy's arms. 
• You went out to dinner for the first time. We had Mexican and you were great! You did get fussy at the end but that's only because you were ready for your dinner.

1. This has been one of your favorite spots. You can be unsure about it if we put you in here when you've just fallen asleep - you'll normally cry then. But you like being in your swing when you're awake or when you're already taking a pretty good nap.
2. I don't think I could do all these frequent feedings without your Boppy pillow! Helps Mommy to have at least one free hand when nursing you.
3. Your monogrammed blanket is both cute and very snuggly. We take it everywhere, especially since you hate being cold.
4. You had an awful time with pretty bad gas this month. Mommy thinks it's from a supplement I took to try and increase my milk supply. We would not have survived without gripe water to help you feel better.
5. You are pretty good at scratching your face and this pretty much heals them overnight!
6. We typically use Pampers as our diaper of choice. But, for a while, you were kind of in between Pampers Newborns and Size 1s. These Huggies diapers ran a little bit larger and helped us transition from one size to another.
7. Your stroller has been a lifesaver! We use it when we go for walks in the neighborhood and to go to Mommy and Me class. It's all the way at the back of the hospital and your car seat is super heavy to carry the entire way.
8. We use your mat every day for tummy time and for playing. We also normally read at least one book together while you're on your mat.
9. You are so good about wearing your headbands. They don't bother you at all and right now our monthly subscription from Little Poppy Co. has the only headbands that will fit you.
