Memorial Day Weekend 2017

Memorial Day Weekend this year happened to be the weekend after Brad had stayed home with McKinley for a week and my first weekend of summer break. We were beyond excited to have a long, relaxing weekend together before he had to go back to work and I jumped back into the stay at home mom life.

Saturday morning, we packed up McKinley and everything she needed (surprisingly a lot for only one day) and headed to Lake Jackson for the day.

Her little belly hanging out of her clothes will forever be my favorite thing.

Our brother-in-law's family owns a lake house on Lake Jackson and they are always so kind to invite us over for holidays. We were so excited for McKinley to experience a day at the lake - swimming in the baby pool and going for boat rides. We decided we didn't really want her in the lake this year (or if I have my way, ever, because, gross) so we stuck to hanging around the lake. Of course, this meant that Brad and I couldn't really enjoy the lake or the sun like we used to. Parenthood definitely changes things - I don't see us having a relaxing lake trip again for many years. ;)

We were worried about McKinley not enjoying the boat ride because infant life jackets are HUGE and very constricting. However, as long as the boat was moving she was fine. She even took a little nap while we were out boating. Trae's parents told us that she wins the award for the best boater! Surprisingly, my sassy babe is a champ on the water.

After a long day of playing in the pool and riding on the boat, I tried my hardest to get MK to nap inside the house where it was nice and cool. However, this kid does not want to miss anything and refused to nap inside. Less than five minutes in the stroller though, and she was out until after dinnertime.

The grown ups ate a very summer worthy dinner of grilled brats, potato and pasta salads, fruit, and chips. That, in addition to all the snacks we had that day, made me super glad to still be nursing and burning calories pretty heavily because it was not a diet friendly day.

We headed home from the lake that night and spent Sunday around our house recovering from a long day out. We may have needed it as much as the baby.

Monday, on Memorial Day, Brad inflated McKinley's float and our baby pool so that we could try it out. She is so desperate to be able to sit up (and not be wobbly) that she really only loved it when I'm holding it upright. However, she lasted over an hour in the pool which is giving us hope that she may be a little water baby after all.
