McKinley | Five Months

My little baby turned five months old on Monday! I can't believe how fast this year is flying by. When I think about how old you are getting, I am so sad. Then, I remind myself of all the new things we are experiencing together and how much fun I am having watching my little girl grow and it makes it slightly easier.

NicknamesMK, Lady Baby, Little Babe

WeightMama must make good milk because you're a big girl. You weigh somewhere between 16 and 17 pounds already!

Height: You are somewhere between 25 and 26 inches. Hopefully closer to 26 inches since you were 25 1/4 at your 4-month appointment.

LooksBrown hair that is still filling in on top and rubbing off on the back. The spots where your hair has rubbed off are growing back in blonde though. Currently, your eyes are still blue. However, they've been changing a lot lately. Some days they look almost green and other days they look light brown/gray. We are starting to think they won't stay blue after all, which makes Mommy and Daddy so sad.

Personality: You're still our sassy little lady. You love talking and you are so sweet in the mornings with all your little noises, I love listening to you on the monitor. You laugh out loud all the time now and smiling is your favorite.

EatingNow that Mommy is back home for the summer, you're exclusively breastfeeding again. I don't really know how many times a day you eat because I feed you on demand, but I do know that we're dropping nighttime feedings like woah (praise hands).

SleepingThe beginning of this month continued to be pretty terrible as far as sleeping was concerned. You were waking up at least 3 times a night and typically staying up for about 2 hours after one of those late night wake up calls. Mommy was so tired and constantly had a headache. Daddy and I happened to see a new report that said babies sleep better in their own rooms after 4 months. We had planned to keep you with us for at least the first 6 months, but we thought we would try your crib just to see. You sleeping in your own bed has made such a difference! You slept through the night for the first time EVER after moving to your own room. You are now also sleeping 6-8 hour stretches before waking up to nurse once around 2 AM and then back to sleep until 6 or 6:30 AM when you wake up and play in your bed until Mommy comes to get you. Not every night is perfect but the week that you've been in your room has been so much better than the last month and a half. Too bad Mommy still spends most of the night watching you on the baby monitor.

WearingWearing 3-6 month clothing. You also moved to Size 3 diapers. You can still wear Size 2 diapers when I'm pretty confident you won't be pooping. But, these teething poops are a lot more likely to blow out your diapers these days.

Favorite Things: Sitting up is your most favorite thing ever. You are still loving the Jumperoo. You love to snuggle and saying goodbye to Daddy in the mornings before work is one of your favorite things. You love your little vibrating bunny that Gigi and Pops got you for Easter. You are also really starting to notice our cat, Jules. You love petting her but she doesn't exactly love you.

Least Favorite Things: You still hate getting in your car seat, having the hiccups, not getting your way, teething, and naptime.

5th Month Experiences:

  • Aunt Lexi was your babysitter for a week and Daddy stayed home with you for a week also.
  • We celebrated our first Mother's Day together!
  • You went to the pool for the first time (and second time).
  • You are consistently rolling over from tummy to back now, rolling to your sides, and occasionally rolling onto your belly (your least favorite thing).
  • We went to the pediatrician for your 4-month check-up (79th % for height & 83rd % for weight - you're going to be a tall little lady!).
  • Mommy is home for the summer!
  • We went to the lake for your first Memorial Day Weekend.
  • Daddy bought us a baby pool for the backyard (#nopoolneighborhood) and we have tried it out a few times.
  • We had our first spend the night trip when we went to visit Gigi and Pops.
  • We also surprised both sets of great grandparents on Mommy's side with a visit while we were in town visiting Gigi and Pops.
  • You have started learning to sit up on your own. You can sit up by yourself but are still a little wobbly and will fall over from time to time.
  • You moved from Mommy & Daddy's bedroom to your own room and started sleeping in your crib!
  • You slept through the night for the first time ever!
  • We went to Daddy's Family Day for work at Dave & Buster's.

Why are "infant" life jackets so huge?

First night in your crib!

Terrible picture of Mommy, but you and Daddy are cute.
